Preventative Maintenance Checklist for Conveyor Systems

Conveyors sit at the heart of most production environments, which means any stoppage has a direct impact on throughput. A preventative maintenance checklist ensures every belt, pulley and drive stays aligned with the demands of continuous operation.

Start with daily walkdowns. Listen for abnormal vibration, check belt tracking and confirm that guards remain secure after cleaning or interventions. Early detection of wear patterns gives you time to schedule corrective works before a failure escalates.

Weekly tasks should include checking lubrication points, verifying tensioning mechanisms and inspecting scrapers or ploughs that stop material recirculation. When debris build-up is left unchecked, bearings and gearboxes are forced to work harder and fail sooner.

Monthly, capture motor temperature readings, inspect lagging and review condition monitoring data. Compare findings against OEM tolerances. Where trends point to upcoming issues, plan a shutdown with the right parts and labour ready to deploy.

Finally, document every intervention. A consistent audit trail shows compliance with PUWER requirements and gives your engineering partner a baseline for improvement recommendations.
